Pacers have played a prominent role in the Indian Premier League over the years. With the IPL 2019 auction coming up on December 18, several pacers are in the auction pool. Teams will be looking to bolster their squads and get the right balance. The IPL trade window had earlier seen core of the teams retained. Here are pace bowlers to watch out for.
346 players up for grabs
There are a total of 346 players up for grabs when the auction starts on December 18 in Jaipur. 226 Indian players are available in the auction. South Africa (26), Australia (23) and the West Indies (18) follow suit.
Morne Morkel has the credentials to do well
Former South African pacer Morne Morkel has the credentials to do well. Recently, Morkel appeared in the T10 League in the UAE. The experienced pacer knows a lot about the IPL and has featured for Delhi and Kolkata earlier. He has 77 wickets in the IPL. Teams looking for pace options could have a crack at him. Morkel's base price is Rs. 1.50 crore.
Steyn has been in ominous form for SA
Dale Steyn is back in business and is available in the auction. He has set a base price of Rs. 1.50 crore for himself. The veteran pacer has done well since his return to the South African team earlier this year. Steyn is bowling at a good pace and looks fitter. He has 92 wickets from 90 matches in the IPL.
Mohammed Shami has been among the wickets
Mohammed Shami was shown the door by Delhi in the IPL trade window. The player was bothered by personal issues last season and didn't hit it off. Now he looks at his best. He has been among the wickets in Test cricket and is fighting for a spot in the ICC World Cup 2019. With Rs. 1 crore base price, Shami could be efficient.
Some other names that can be considered
There are several other pacers who could do significantly well keeping things in mind. West Indies youngster Oshane Thomas could be a positive signing. Then there is Ishant Sharma, who has been superb in Test matches. Jaydev Unadkat and Lasith Malinga are other options too.
