MI beat CSK: Here are takeaways from IPL 2019 final
The IPL 2019 came to a thrilling end as Mumbai Indians were crowned champions. They trounced Chennai Super Kings by one run in the final at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. MI clinched their fourth IPL title to become the most successful team. While they won their maiden title in 2013, it has been followed by wins in every alternate edition (2015, 2017, 2019).
Mumbai lose wickets in power-play due to aggressiveness
Mumbai were aggressive in the power-play this entire season, especially Quinton de Kock. He shouldered the responsibility of providing an explosive start. While they were successful on most occasions, it seemed the strategy backfired in the final, as they lost a couple of wickets in the power-play. They lost their openers with the score turning from 45/0 to 45/2. This over-aggressiveness impacted the final-score.
Rohit's captaincy raises eyrbrows
Captaincy is probably the most significant aspect in a T20 game. Even though, Mumbai won the match, Rohit's captaincy did raise some eyebrows. Rohit's decision to bat first was sketchy, as Dhoni was happy to bowl first. The most controversial call by Rohit was giving the call to Krunal Pandya for the 18th over. Shane Watson made the use as he slammed three sixes.
Harbhajan Singh does the tough work as spinner
While Imran Tahir was Chennai's most successful spinner in the IPL this campaign, it has to be noted that veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh does most of the hard work. Although he did not claim any wicket in the final, he was one of the most economical bowlers. It allowed Chennai to restrict Mumbai to an average total, while other spinners took advantage of this.
Third umpires should use ultra-slow-motion for run outs
Mumbai may have been lucky to get rid of MS Dhoni early, courtesy of a run-out. However, the decision took ages as the third umpire got confused with different camera angles showing different results. Further, judging by frames makes things difficult, and instead, the umpires should use ultra-slow-motion technology. Since it's super slow, the umpire would get more time to take the right call.
Rahul Chahar not far behind Deepak
While Deepak Chahar has already made a name for himself in Chennai, by becoming CSK's second-highest wicket-taker this year, his brother Rahul is not far behind. Although not as successful as Deepak, being MI's fourth-most wicket-taker this year, Rahul showed good presence of mind during the final. His googlies were difficult to read and he can be a Team India prospect.
