1,122 cricketers register for IPL 11 auctions
If you are a cricketer, playing in the IPL is definitely a dream. With the player registration of IPL closing on 12th of January, a whopping 1,122 players have signed up to be a part of its auctions. The auctions are scheduled to take place on 27th and the 28th of January in Bengaluru. Here's more!
Go to destination for cricketers
World's top cricketers and rising stars from India have made the IPL the biggest T20 league in the last 10 seasons. For this season, 281 capped and 838 uncapped players have registered their names for the mega IPL auctions. 778 of the players are Indians and three of the players are from associate nations.
Bidding war likely for big boys
The likes of Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Ajinkya Rahane, Kuldeep Yadav, KL Rahul, Murali Vijay and Yuzvendra Chahal are all up for grabs and are likely to start a bidding war, come the end of the month. Most franchises will look to use the 'Right to Match' card to retain these superstars, if their prices do not soar.
Global superstars also to fetch big bucks
As for the global superstars who will go under the hammer, a bidding war is likely to take place for Chris Gayle, Ben Stokes, Chris Lynn, Eoin Morgan, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. England captain, Joe Root has also thrown his hat into the mix and is the new entrant in IPL. It would be interesting to see who finally gets Root.
IPL to have a lot of Caribbean flavors
West Indies players have always been popular in the IPL and Dwayne Bravo, Carlos Brathwaite, Evin Lewis and Jason Holder should attract massive bids. Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Niroshan Dickwella, and Thisara Perera are the Sri Lankan contingent available at the auctions. Kane Williamson, Colin Munro, Tom Latham will be the Kiwis trying to add their charm to the league.
Uncapped, yet famous
Among the uncapped players, U-19 captain, Prithvi Shaw is expected to fetch a huge bid. Baroda skipper, Deepak Hooda, all-rounder Krunal Pandya and Basil Thampi are also some of the big uncapped names who will go under the hammer later this month. Australian players will look to cash in on the Big Bash form.
344 foreign players register for auctions
A total of 58 Australian players have registered for the tournament. The next on this list is South Africa, from where 57 players have registered. West Indies and Sri Lanka both saw 39 registrations each, while 30 players from New Zealand registered and 26 from England. 13 Afghan players and 2 US players have also registered for the tournament.
