Sunrisers Hyderabad post highest powerplay score in IPL history: Stats
Sunrisers Hyderabad broke the record for most runs scored in the powerplay of the Indian Premier League. SRH attained the milestone in Match 35 of the IPL 2024 season against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday. SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head added 125 runs in the first six overs against DC. They also brought up the fastest 100 by a team.
Most runs in the powerplay
SRH's 125/0 is now the highest team total in the powerplay overs (1-6). As per Cricbuzz, the team broke the previous record set by Kolkata Knight Riders, who scored 105/0 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2017. The Chennai Super Kings are the only other side with 100-plus runs in the powerplay (100/2 vs PBKS in 2014).
SRH post the fastest team hundred in IPL history
SRH finished on 103/0 after five overs. This is now the fastest team hundred in IPL history (in terms of overs taken). Both CSK and KKR attained the milestone in six overs against RCB and PBKS respectively.
Head smashes 84 runs in PP overs
Head was the chief destructor. He has now posted the highest score in the powerplay overs for SRH in the IPL. Head smashed 84 runs from 26 balls. He brought up his fifty from 16 balls. He hit six sixes and 11 fours in what was absolute carnage. His partner Abhishek slammed 40 from 10 balls during the PP overs.
Absolute carnage in the powerplay
In the first over from pacer Khaleel Ahmed produced 19 runs. Lalit Yadav then gave away 21 runs in the second over. Fast bowler Anrich Nortje conceded 22 runs next before Lalit repeated another 21-run over. Kuldeep Yadav was welcomed with 20 runs from his first over. The final over of the powerplay saw Mukesh Kumar give away 22 runs.
Five dots, six singles, one leg bye and 24 boundaries
The first six overs saw the SRH openers notch only six singles. There was one leg bye and five dot balls. A total of 24 boundaries were smashed, including 13 fours and 11 maximums.
