IPL 2019: RR beat RCB, here are the records broken
Rajasthan Royals got off the blocks in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 season after sealing an important victory in match number 14 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. This was RR's maiden win in four attempts as RCB lost their fourth consecutive match. RCB rode on Parthiv Patel's 67 to get to 158/4. In reply, Jos Buttler's heroics helped RR win. Here's more.
Jos Buttler smashes eighth career IPL fifty
Jos Buttler (59) hit his second fifty in IPL 2019. This was also his eighth career IPL fifty and a seventh for RR. His innings included eight fours and a six. He equalled Chris Gayle in terms of runs in IPL 12 (139).
Kohli leads RCB for the 100th time in IPL
Virat Kohli became the third skipper after MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir to lead 100-plus matches in the IPL. Kohli was dismissed by spinner Shreyas Gopal for 23 runs. This was for the seventh time Kohli got out against a spinner in his last 10 dismissals in IPL. Gopal (3/12) now has nine wickets against RCB in his last three appearances.
RR defeat RCB for the third consecutive time since 2018
This was the 19th meeting between Royals and RCB in IPL. RR now have a slender 10-8 advantage with one match ending in no result. Last season, we saw Royals taking command in both the matches over RCB and this was the third successive win.
Parthiv smashes 12th career IPL fifty, Chahal shines
Parthiv's innings included nine fours and a six. He now has 12 IPL fifties. Yuzvendra Chahal now has eight wickets this season and leads the show with the ball. He has 90 wickets and equalled the likes of Praveen Kumar, RP Singh and Mohit Sharma (90 wickets each). Parthiv and Kohli added 49 runs. This was the highest opening stand for RCB this season.
How did the match pan out?
RCB got off to a positive start, but Gopal changed the situation. He got the key wickets of Kohli, AB de Villiers and Shimron Hetmyer to leave RCB at 73/3. Parthiv and Marcus Stoinis shared a crucial 53-run stand. In reply, RR got off to a flier. Chahal dismissed Ajinkya Rahane (22) and got Buttler, but RR surged ahead with Steve Smith in charge.
