Rohit Sharma becomes second player to complete 250 IPL appearances
Mumbai Indians batter Rohit Sharma has completed 250 appearances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Match 33 of the 2024 IPL between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians marked his feat. Rohit became just the second player to get this feat after Mahendra Singh Dhoni (256). The veteran opener is the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL history. Here we decode his stats.
Decoding Rohit's journey in IPL
Rohit represented the now-defunct Deccan Chargers in the first three IPL seasons (2008-2010). Rohit slammed 1,170 runs from 45 matches at 30.78 for DC. He also claimed a hat-trick in DC colors and that too against MI. MI bought Rohit in the 2011 IPL auction and the rest is history. He was made their captain midway through the 2013 season.
Five title wins under captain Rohit
The 2013 season saw MI lift their maiden IPL title. Rohit powered MI to four more IPL trophies in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. The 36-year-old Rohit had poor returns in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons. Hardik Pandya replaced him as MI skipper ahead of the 2024 event. Rohit, however, has made his bat talk in the ongoing competition.
Fourth-most runs in IPL history
Rohit's tally of 6,472 IPL runs at 30.10 is the fourth-most for any batter. He is only behind Virat Kohli (7,624), Shikhar Dhawan (6,769), and David Warner (6,563). Rohit's tally includes 42 fifties in addition to two tons. He is the only batter with multiple centuries for MI. Meanwhile, Rohit owns the second-most sixes in IPL (272). He is only behind Chris Gayle (357).
Most runs for MI
Playing his 205th IPL game for MI, Rohit boasts 5,302 runs at an average and strike rate of 29.95 and 131.17, respectively (50s: 34, 100: 2). No other batter has even 3,500 IPL runs for the franchise. Meanwhile, Rohit has raced to 261 runs in IPL 2024 at a strike rate of 167.30. He scored a century against CSK in his preceding outing.
Joint-most IPL titles
Rohit holds the record for securing the joint-most IPL titles with Ambati Rayudu. The former won the IPL 2009 title with Deccan Chargers. Later on, Rohit guided MI to five IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020). Meanwhile, Rayudu won three titles each with MI (2013, 2015, and 2017) and Chennai Super Kings (2018, 2021, and 2023).
