IPL 2018: Which new records were set in this season?
The Indian Premier League 2018 season has seen some interesting records being set as the 11th edition has captured the mind of fans once again. With the top four race intensifying, players have stepped up to the cause and there have also been some unwanted records as well. Teams, too, have broken new records and here we take a look at them.
West Indians at the thick of things
Kings XI Punjab's Chris Gayle notched his 288th six in IPL. He has hit 23 for his new side already. Gayle also scored his 6th IPL century after an unbeaten 104 run-knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sunil Narine registered his 100th IPL career wicket this season. Narine recorded his worst performance of IPL after he conceded 48 runs in his four over-spell against Rajasthan Royals.
Andre Russell's blitz sees him dominate strike-rate
Andre Russell has the best strike-rate in the history of IPL. The West Indian contributed to that by striking a 36-ball 88* against CSK this season. The innings strike-rate of 244.44 is one of his best performances and 88* is also his highest score.
CSK breaking one record after another
Harbhajan Singh toppled Praveen Kumar to become the bowler with the highest dot balls in IPL history. Praveen had 1,075 dots and Harbhajan has 1,082 to his name. The RCB versus CSK game saw a new record of 33 sixes being hit in a single match. Earlier, the CSK-KKR match had seen 31 sixes which was a record set in this season itself.
Kohli's magic continues
The RCB skipper became only the third Indian captain to lead in 100 T20 matches behind Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni. He also became the first player to score an aggregate 2,000 runs at a single stadium as he set the milestone at the Chinnaswamy.
KXIP sees some individual records
Aaron Finch set a new record, when he appeared for KXIP, to become the first player to represent 7 different IPL teams. KL Rahul scripted the fastest fifty ever in IPL history when he smashed a 14-ball 50 against Delhi Daredevils. Mujeeb Ur Rahman became the youngest player to take part in IPL at the age of 17 years and 11 days.
Some more records set in 2018
Ankit Rajpoot's 5/14 saw him notch the best bowling figures in IPL history by an uncapped player. The 119 runs scored by KXIP against SRH is the lowest ever by any side after getting to 50+ runs without losing a wicket. MI registered their joint-lowest total 87 this season. AB de Villiers registered his highest ever score while chasing in the IPL (90*).
