Captains to attain this double in an IPL match
Punjab Kings captain Sam Curran smashed a match-winning 63*(41) against Rajasthan Royals in Match 65 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The PBKS skipper also took two wickets as RR were restricted to 144/9. Curran has become only the fourth player with a 50-plus score and two wickets in an IPL match as captain. Here are the other captains with this feat.
Sourav Ganguly: 91 and 2/25 vs Deccan Chargers, 2008
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was the first-ever player to reach this landmark in the IPL. Leading Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural season (2008), Ganguly scored 91(57) and took two wickets against the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. KKR compiled 204/4 before restricting the Chargers to 181/7 in Hyderabad. Besides bagging figures worth 2/25, Ganguly also took two catches.
Yuvraj Singh: 50 and 3/22 vs RCB, 2009
Yuvraj Singh emerged as India's prolific match-winner in the late 2000s. He replicated his all-round exploits in the first two IPL seasons for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). In the 2009 IPL encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Durban, he scored a 34-ball 50. However, Punjab couldn't chase down 146. Earlier, Yuvraj took 3/22 to dent RCB's batting line-up.
Yuvraj Singh: 66* and 4/29 vs DC, 2011
Yuvraj remains the only player to record a half-century and two-plus wickets as captain in multiple IPL matches. In 2011, Yuvraj achieved this feat while leading Pune Warriors. He smashed an unbeaten 66(32) before taking 4/29 against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), albeit in losing cause. The Capitals successfully chased down 188 in 19.2 overs.
JP Duminy: 54 & 4/17 vs SRH, 2015
South Africa's JP Duminy was once a dependable middle-order batter for DC in the IPL. The left-hander, leading DC in the IPL 2015 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, smashed a 41-ball 54. Shreyas Iyer also slammed a half-century as DC compiled 167/4 in 20 overs. DC later snuck a four-run win, with Duminy recording a four-wicket haul. He also took two catches.
