IPL: Players who hogged limelight after leaving RCB
Despite scoring 262/7, Royal Challengers Bengaluru fell short to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024. Over the years, RCB's players have broken several IPL records, but this hasn't resulted in a trophy. While legends like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle, and AB de Villiers bolstered the side, quite a few big names have underperformed before moving to another franchise. Here are a few of them.
Shane Watson
Former all-rounder Shane Watson joined RCB from RR in 2016. Watson recorded just 250 runs at 13.15 and 25 wickets between 2016 and 2017. However, Chennai Super Kings picked him in 2018, and his fortunes changed. With MS Dhoni's backing, Watson compiled 1,252 runs at 30.53 for CSK (two tons). He won the 2018 IPL with CSK, having smacked a century in the final.
Moeen Ali
England all-rounder Moeen Ali had a similar trajectory. He was picked up by RCB for Rs. 1.7 crore in 2018. The spin-bowling all-rounder scored 309 runs and took just 10 wickets from 19 matches for RCB. CSK acquired Ali after RCB released him ahead of the 2021 season. And the Yellow Army claimed their fourth IPL title that year.
Quinton de Kock
Quinton de Kock, who earlier played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), joined RCB in 2018. However, he ended up scoring 201 runs at 25.12 in his only season with the Royal Challengers. Mumbai Indians then traded him in before the 2019 season. The South African batter smashed over 500 runs each in 2019 and 2020, as MI won two titles.
Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa, one of India's most dashing openers, represented RCB for two seasons (2009-2010). Uthappa had a decent run as he smacked 549 runs from 31 matches at a strike rate of 141.49 for the Royal Challengers. The right-handed batter later had successful stints with Pune Warriors India, Kolkata Knight Riders, and CSK. He even won IPL titles with KKR and CSK.
