Indian Premier League: Presenting highest wicket-takers in death overs
One of the toughest tasks in T20 cricket is to restrict the flow of runs in death overs. Even the greatest bowlers succumb to the pressure, especially in the Indian Premier League. However, when on song, the bowlers succeed in outfoxing the dashers and come out with flying colors. Dwayne Bravo is the leading wicket-taker in death overs (final four) in the IPL.
Dwayne Bravo: 102 wickets
As mentioned, former Chennai Super Kings seamer Bravo is the highest wicket-taker in the last four overs in the IPL. Bravo, who had a vicious slower ball, outclassed the batters in this phase with his variations. The former is the only player with over 100 wickets in this phase. He took 102 death-over wickets at 17.74 but also conceded 1,810 runs.
Lasith Malinga: 90 wickets
Former Mumbai Indians bowler Lasith Malinga follows Bravo on this list. While Bravo had an uncanny slower ball, Malinga's searing yorkers combined with a slingy action made waves. Malinga snapped up 90 wickets at an incredible average of 13.28 in death overs. While he has conceded 1,196 runs in this phase, his economy rate in this phase is the lowest (7.82).
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 84 wickets
Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar holds the record for taking the most death-over wickets by an Indian bowler in the IPL. The right-arm seamer, who still perturbs the batters with his immaculate line and length, has taken 84 wickets at 21.14 in this regard. Bhuvi has conceded 1,776 runs and 69 sixes in the final four overs (IPL).
Jasprit Bumrah: 72 wickets
Like his mentor Malinga, MI's Jasprit Bumrah shines with his pin-point yorkers at the death. Moreover, the latter uses this weapon throughout the match. Bumrah follows Bhuvneshwar with 72 wickets at an average of 20.81 in detah overs. The former's economy rate of 8.56 is decent as the past few seasons have seen an increase in 200+ totals.
Mohit Sharma: 59 wickets
Gujarat Titans gave Mohit Sharma's IPL career a new lease of life in 2023. He finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker that season with his teammate Rashid Khan. Mohit, a veteran seamer in the IPL, hits the deck hard, which helps him succeed in death overs. As of now, he has taken 59 death-over wickets at 17.91 in the cash-rich league.
