IPL 2019: Pacer Mohit Sharma lauds MSD's captaincy
The captaincy of MS Dhoni, in white-ball cricket, has been second to none. The success of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League can be largely attributed to the leadership skills of Dhoni. The title holders go into the 12th edition as the favorites. Pacer Mohit Sharma returns to the franchise this season. And, ahead of the opening game, he praised Dhoni's captaincy.
Mohit will be looking to deliver the goods
The IPL starts from March 23 onwards and Mohit will be looking to deliver the goods for CSK. The experienced campaigner made his IPL debut in the 2013 and represented the franchise till 2015. Mohit enjoyed his best season in 2014 and bagged the prestigious Purple Cap. He went to Kings XI Punjab after that season, but CSK bought him back this term.
Mohit had a dismal 2018 campaign
Mohit has picked up 90 wickets from 84 matches in the IPL. He didn't quite hit his rhythm last term for KXIP and took just seven scalps from nine matches. His economy rate of 10.85 was an issue. This is one area where Mohit would want to better himself in IPL 2019. And he has credited Dhoni for bringing out the best in him.
'He taught me to think about my bowling'
"I came under Mahi Bhai's captaincy at CSK pretty early in my career, in fact I learnt a lot about my bowling from him. Mahi Bhai brought the best out of me. He taught me to think about my bowling, understand the conditions," said Mohit.
Dhoni's captaincy has been vital for CSK
Dhoni's captaincy has been the primary reason behind CSK's success in IPL. From selecting the right XI to rotating bowlers, Dhoni has been right on the money over the years. The southern outfit made a comeback last term, after being suspended for two seasons and yet won the trophy. Dhoni's captaincy could once again propel someone like Mohit to find his form.
Mohit highlights the importance of MSD
"I learnt to handle pressure from Mahi Bhai, handling pressure is what T20 is about, what IPL is about and what playing at home is about," said Mohit to the official website of CSK.
