Lesser-known records of Rohit Sharma in IPL
Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is one of only four players with over 6,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rohit, who also represented the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, has racked up 6,329 runs from 247 IPL encounters at an average of 29.57. Between 2013 and 2020, he led MI to five IPL titles. Here are his lesser-known records in the cash-rich league.
Rohit owns an IPL hat-trick
Rohit is known for his power-packed knocks, especially in the first half of a T20. It is worth noting that Rohit started his career as a middle-order batter, who bowled off-spin. Besides scoring runs aplenty, Rohit also owns a hat-trick in the IPL. He took the same in 2009 for Deccan Chargers against MI. Rohit became only the fifth player with an IPL hat-trick.
1,000 IPL runs against a side
In 2021, Rohit became the first-ever batter to complete 1,000 runs against a side (Kolkata Knight Riders) in the IPL. Rohit loves batting against the Knight Riders, having amassed 1,040 runs from 32 IPL matches at an average of 41.60. The tally includes six fifties and a ton. His best IPL score of 109* came against KKR in 2012.
Over 1,100 IPL runs for Chargers
Rohit represented Deccan Chargers in the first three IPL seasons (2008-2010). He is one of only two batters with over 1,000 IPL runs for the franchise, the other being Adam Gilchrist. Rohit slammed 1,170 runs from 45 matches at 30.78 for DC.
Joint-most IPL titles
Rohit holds the record for securing the joint-most IPL titles with Ambati Rayudu. The former won the IPL 2009 title with Deccan Chargers. Later on, Rohit guided MI to five IPL titles (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020). Meanwhile, Rayudu won three titles each with MI (2013, 2015, and 2017) and Chennai Super Kings (2018, 2021, and 2023).
Most MoM awards in IPL
Rohit has won 19 Man-of-the-Match awards in the IPL, the most by an Indian player. Notably, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli have 17 awards each. Overall, Rohit is only behind AB de Villiers (25) and Chris Gayle (22) overall.
