Royal Challengers Bengaluru thrashed Gujarat Titans by nine wickets in Match 45 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Centurion Will Jacks and Virat Kohli stunned the Titans as RCB chased down 201 in just 16 overs. This marked RCB's second-highest successful run-chase in the IPL. Have a look at their top four such run-chases.
204 vs PBKS, Bengaluru, 2010
In IPL 2010, RCB chased down 204 in 18.5 overs against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. This remains RCB's highest successful run-chase in the IPL. Jacques Kallis (89* off 55 balls) and Robin Uthappa (51 of 21 balls) were the stars for RCB in that chase. Manish Pandey gave RCB a good start with a 26-ball 38.
201 vs GT, Ahmedabad, 2024
Fourteen years later, RCB recorded their second 200+ score in a successful run-chase. As mentioned, the Royal Challengers registered their second-highest successful IPL run-chase in Ahmedabad. It was a one-sided affair, with Jacks going berserk. He slammed a 41-ball 100* (5 fours and 10 sixes). Kohli, who opened alongside Faf du Plessis (24), played second fiddle and scored a 44-ball 70*.
192 vs RPS, Bengaluru, 2016
RCB chased down 192 against the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL 2016. This remains RCB's only other 190+ run-chase in the cash-rich league. Kohli's unbeaten century (108 off 58 balls) helped the Royal Challengers complete the run-chase in 19.3 overs. Notably, Kohli smashed a total of four tons that season. He scored 973 runs, the most by a player in an IPL season.
187 vs SRH, Hyderabad, 2023
Another successful run-chase for RCB, another century from Kohli. The RCB veteran slammed a 63-ball 100 as RCB chased down 187 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023. Kohli and du Plessis hammered the Orane Army, adding 172 for the opening wicket. The former anchored RCB's run-chase with 12 fours and 4 sixes. Earlier, Heinrich Klaasen smashed a 51-ball 104 for SRH.
