IPL: Who has the highest individual score in successful run-chases?
Lucknow Super Giants' Marcus Stoinis stunned the Chepauk crowd with a match-winning 124*(63) against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024 encounter. Stoinis powered LSG to a six-wicket win as they emphatically chased down 211. He slammed his maiden IPL ton. The right-handed dasher recorded the highest-ever individual score in IPL run-chases. Have a look at the names Stoinis surpassed in this process.
Paul Valthaty: 120* vs CSK, 2011
As mentioned, Stoinis now has the highest individual score in IPL run-chases. He broke the record of India's Paul Valthaty, who smashed a 63-ball 120* for Punjab Kings against CSK in 2011. The latter slammed 19 fours and 2 sixes. Valthaty's knock helped PBKS chase down 189 in Mohali. Valthaty, who at that time became a household name, soon disappeared from Indian cricket.
Virender Sehwag: 119 vs Deccan Chargers, 2011
In the same season, Virender Sehwag scripted history with his maiden IPL century, against the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. The Chargers, batting first, racked up 175/5 on their home ground in Hyderabad. Although Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) were reduced to 25/3, Sehwag single-handedly powered their run-chase. He smashed a 56-ball 119, a splendid knock laced with 13 fours and 6 sixes.
Sanju Samson: 119 vs PBKS, 2021
Sanju Samson's first-ever IPL match as the full-time captain of Rajasthan Royals remains special. His 119(63) nearly snatched victory from jaws of defeat, but RR fell four runs short in a 222-run chase. Samson was RR's lone warrior as he smashed 12 fours and 7 sixes. The RR skipper brought it down to five runs off the final ball that resulted in his dismissal.
Shane Watson: 117* vs SRH, 2018
Shane Watson emerged as an all-time great in the IPL, wherein he represented RR, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and CSK. He smashed an unbeaten 117(57) against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2018 final. CSK chased down 179 to claim their third IPL title. Watson, who opened his account after facing 10 balls, eventually recorded the highest-ever score in IPL finals.
