Indian Premier League: Decoding editions with most centuries
The Indian Premier League 2024 season is seeing a host of batting records break with every passing game. This season has already produced 14 centuries by batters which is now the highest in IPL history. The record was made when Gujarat Titans duo Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan smashed centuries against Chennai Super Kings in Match 59. Here are IPL editions with most centuries.
14 tons and counting in IPL 2024
As per ESPNcricinfo, 13 different batters have registered hundreds in IPL 2024. Notably, Jos Buttler of Rajasthan Royals has hit two hundreds. The others are: Will Jacks (RCB), Suryakumar Yadav (MI), Jonny Bairstow (PBKS), Travis Head (SRH), Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR), Sunil Narine (KKR), Virat Kohli (RCB), Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK), Marcus Stoinis (LSG), Gill (GT) and Sudharsan (GT).
IPL 2023 season saw 12 tons get registered
The 2023 IPL season witnessed 12 centuries get smashed. For the first time, an IPL edition saw 10-plus hundreds recorded. Nine batters hit centuries last season. Gill, who won the Orange Cap, registered three centuries himself. Meanwhile, Kohli smashed two tons. The others were: Jaiswal (RR), Suryakumar (MI), Cameron Green (MI), Heinrich Klaasen (SRH), Venkatesh Iyer (KKR) and Prabhsimran Singh (PBKS), Harry Brook (SRH).
IPL 2022 season had 8 tons with Buttler smashing four
In the IPL 2022 season, eight centuries were smashed. RR opener Buttler hit four tons himself in a record-breaking campaign. In 17 matches, Buttler smashed 863 runs at 57.53. He also hit four fifties. LSG's KL Rahul smashed two centuries. He scored 616 runs in IPL 2022 at 51.33. RCB's Rajat Patidar and LSG's Quinton de Kock hit one century each.
IPL 2016 season produced 7 centuries
The IPL 2016 season was dominated by Kohli. The RCB supremo recorded 973 runs that season at 81.08. He went on to hammer four tons alongside seven half-centuries. Three other batters hit one century each. Playing for the now defunct RPS, Steve Smith hit one ton. De Kock, who represented DC back then, also hit triple digits. RCB's AB de Villiers smoked one century.
