IPL: Shikhar Dhawan becomes first player to score back-to-back centuries
The law of averages doesn't appear to perturb Shikhar Dhawan in the ongoing IPL season. Just like the previous game, the Delhi Capitals opener has slammed his second century of the IPL. Notably, he has become the first-ever cricketer to have smashed tons in two consecutive games. During the game, he also became the fifth cricketer to complete 5,000 IPL runs.
Dhawan enters the 5,000-run club
During the innings, Dhawan also entered an elite club of veterans. He became the fifth cricketer and fourth from India to have completed 5,000 runs in the IPL. Dhawan is now only behind Virat Kohli (5,759), Suresh Raina (5,368), and Rohit Sharma (5,158) on the all-time runs tally. Notably, he is presently among the top-five run-scorers this season.
Joint-second-most 100+ scores in an IPL season
Dhawan now has two scores of 100+ runs this season. This is the joint-second-highest tally along with Chris Gayle (2011), Hashim Amla (2017) and Shane Watson (2018). Overall, this tally is led by Virat Kohli, who slammed four in 2016.

Other records broken by Dhawan in the match
Dhawan became the seventh batsman to slam a century in the IPL against Kings XI Punjab. He is also the eighth player from Delhi Capitals to smash an IPL ton. It is interesting to note that Dhawan did not have even single 50+ score in ten consecutive innings, before October 11. Ever since, has has added two fifties and as many tons.
Lowest first-innings total to contain an individual IPL ton
Although Dhawan made his outing memorable, others didn't compliment him well from the other end. As a result, the DC mustered only 164/5 at the end of the first innings. This has become the lowest first-innings total to contain an individual IPL ton (Dhawan). Other scores on the tally are: 170/4 (Manish Pandey- 114* v Deccan Chargers) and 177/4 (David Warner- 107* vs KKR)
