CSK's Simarjeet Singh registers his career-best IPL figures
Chennai Super Kings pacer Simarjeet Singh put up an excellent display of fast bowling in Match 61 of the 2024 Indian Premier League against Rajasthan Royals. The right-arm pacer bowled brilliantly and finished with 3/26 in his four overs. These are now his best IPL figures as RR were restricted to 141/5 while batting first at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium. Here are his stats.
A fine spell from Simarjeet
Simarjeet struck with his second ball in the game as the dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal (25) fell to him. A mistimed pull shot meant Ruturaj Gaikwad took a fine catch at covers. Jaiswal's opening partner Jos Buttler (21) also fell to him as the Englishman couldn't connect the scoop properly. RR skipper Sanju Samson (15) was his final victim.
Career-best figures for Simarjeet
Notably, the 3/26 against RR are now Simarjeet's best IPL figures. The pacer now has nine wickets across as many IPL games at an economy of 8.28. Five of his scalps have been registered across three matches this year (ER: 9.27). The 26-year-old uncapped bowler now owns 33 wickets across 29 T20 matches. His economy rate reads 7.70.
Parag help RR post a decent total
As mentioned, all of RR's top-three batters threw away their starts thanks to Simarjeet. Riyan Parag (47* off 35) batted well on a tricky surface as RR posted a somewhat respectable 141/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Dhruv Jurel (28 off 18) also made a vital contribution. Meanwhile, Tushar Deshpande (2/30) was CSK's only other wicket-taker besides Simarjeet.
