    MS Dhoni to reunite with CSK soon

    What's the story

    Chennai Super Kings was conspicuously missing from the last two editions of the IPL but they plan to return with a bang by re-signing their most successful captain, Dhoni.

    Today, in the IPL Governing Council, it was decided that the teams can buy back 5 players from their last year's squad. This decision has made the reunion of Dhoni with CSK inevitable.

    What did the IPL Governing Council say?

    All the franchises will be allowed to buy back five players,which can include any combination of retention and right-to-match cards with not more than three in either category.

    The Governing Council also made it clear that maximum of three Indian cricketers, two overseas players and two uncapped players can be retained.

    For fans, this would mean Dhoni and Ashwin are reunited in Chennai.

    What is 'Right to Match' option?

    The 'Right to Match' option gives the teams an ability to retain their players by matching their auction price set by competing teams. It was first introduced in IPL auction process in 2014.

    Total purse to be increased to Rs. 80 cr

    The governing council has also decided to increase the total purse for each franchise from Rs. 66 cr to Rs. 80 cr.

    The wages of uncapped players is also to be increased.

    Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions will not be a part of this edition.

    However Chennai and Rajasthan will be making a comeback after serving their ban.
