IPL: Top five matches between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals
As the IPL 12 is off to flying start, things are sure to get more interesting as the tournament progresses further. In match number three of the tournament former champions Mumbai Indians will take on Delhi Capitals in Mumbai on Sunday. While the tie promises to be a thriller, we take a look at the top matches between the sides to date.
Delhi clinch a thriller in 2009
The South African edition of the IPL saw Delhi clinch a thrilling seven-wicket win over MI in East London. Batting first, MI were bundled for mere 116, courtesy Rajat Bhatia's 3/15. Nonetheless, the chase wasn't an easy one for Delhi. However, it was AB de Villiers (38-ball 50) who made sure that Delhi rode safely home, with just seven balls to spare.
MI register first big-margin win
The IPL 2010 saw Mumbai brutalize Delhi when they beat the latter by a massive margin of 98 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi. Batting first, Sachin Tendulkar scored a 32-ball 63, as they posted a mammoth total of 218/7. In reply, Delhi were bundled for mere 120 as Dwayne Bravo, Sanath Jayasuriya and Harbhajan Singh claimed two wickets each.
Sweet revenge for Delhi after three years
In 2013, three years after a humiliating defeat, Delhi got a sweet revenge on Mumbai, when they tamed the latter by nine wickets at home. Batting first, Tendulkar's 47-ball 54-run knock allowed Mumbai to post 161/4. In reply, it was Virender Sehwag's unbeaten knock of 95, along with Mahela Jayawardene's 43-ball 59 that allowed Delhi to chase the target with 18 balls to spare.
Delhi edge past by just 10 runs
2016 saw another thriller between the sides, while it was Delhi which pulled off a thriller by just 10 runs at home. Batting first, Delhi posted a fine total of 164/4, courtesy Sanju Samson's 48-ball 60. In reply, Mumbai were off to a flier, as Rohit Sharma scored 48-ball 65. However, his unfortunate run out towards the end allowed Delhi to steal the win.
MI's record win over Delhi
In one of the most one-sided matches in IPL history, Mumbai decimated Delhi by a massive margin of 146 runs in Cuttack. Batting first, Mumbai posted a mammoth total of 212/3, courtesy Lendl Simmons (66) and Kieron Pollard (63.) In reply, Delhi put up a horror show, as they were bundled for mere 66, with Harbhajan and Karn Sharma picking three each.
