Here are some of the IPL's best buys over years
IPL auction for the 11th edition is set to take place on 27th and 28th January and the franchises, as every year, will shell out huge money to get the players of their choice. Over years, only some of the players have managed to provide bang for their buck. Here's a look at some the best buys in tournament's history.
Shaun Marsh with Kings XI Punjab
Shaun Marsh was bought by Kings XI Punjab franchise in the inaugural edition of IPL at his base price of Rs. 12 lakh. Proving his value for money, Marsh became the highest run-getter in the tournament with 616 runs in 11 matches that year. He was also the highest run-getter in IPL 3. Marsh has been retained by the team for 10 years.
Dwayne Bravo by CSK
The buying of Dwayne Bravo by the Chennai Super Kings in 2011, at just $ 200,000 was a steal and had been a value addition to the side with both ball and bat. The West Indies all-rounder contributed to the team's success by scalping 79 wickets at an average of 22 and scored 706 runs in 61 matches at an average of 24.
Sunil Narine by KKR
During the 2012 IPL auction, Sunil Narine was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders for $ 700,000. The Windies bowler was an instant success as he picked up 24 wickets in 15 matches in his very first season with them at an average of 13. He was the most successful bowler guiding Kolkata to championship that year. He was also the purple cap winner.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Mitchell McClenaghan
Yuzvendra Chahal was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore at his base price of $ 16,100 in 2014 and made crucial contributions claiming 12 wickets that year. Kiwi seamer, Mitchell McClenaghan is another value-for-money IPL buy and was bought by Mumbai Indians for $ 49,000 in 2015 auction. He was instrumental in Mumbai's title win and picked up 18 wickets in 12 matches that year.
