Pool 2 of marquee players sold at IPL 2018 auction
The 2018 IPL auctions are going on in Bengaluru. The second pool of marquee players have been sold. The biggest surprise was Joe Root remaining unsold. Additionally, Gautam Gambhir will reunite with Delhi in IPL 11 and Yuvraj will play for Punjab. Here is the second list of marquee players that went under the hammer.
Shakib Al Hasan sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad
Former Bangladesh captain and all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan was sold to 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shakib, who previously played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, has scored 498 runs in 43 matches at a strike rate of 130.36. The 30-year-old also has 43 wickets to his name at an economy of 7.17.
Harbhajan Singh sold to Chennai for Rs. 2 cr
After playing for Mumbai Indians in the last 10 editions, Harbhajan Singh will now provide his services to the Chennai Super Kings. H was bought for his base price of Rs. 2 cr. The veteran spinner has 127 wickets in 136 matches.
Glenn Maxwell sold to Delhi Daredevils
Hard-hitting Australian, Glenn Maxwell was sold to Delhi Daredevils for Rs. 9 cr, after Kings XI Punjab opted against using the 'Right to Match' card for him. The power hitter, who sparked a bidding war, has played 57 matches scoring 1,228 runs at a blistering strike rate of 164.39.
Gautam Gambhir sold to Delhi Daredevils
Kolkata Knight Riders opted against using their 'Right to Match' card for captain fantastic Gautam Gambhir, which means the dashing left-handed opener will now play for his hometown Delhi Daredevils. DD paid Rs. 2.8 cr for his services. The two time IPL winning captain, Gambhir has played 148 matches scoring 4,133 runs at an average of 31.55 and a strike rate of 124.64.
England captain Joe Root unsold
It didn't go well for England captain, Joe Root at his maiden IPL auction. The right-handed batsman, who has a base-price of Rs. 2 cr, was unsold at the auction. However, he can come back into the fray with his base price slashed to half.
Dwayne Bravo will wear the yellow jersey
West Indies all-rounder, Dwayne Bravo, who has been one of the consistent performers in the IPL, will continue his association with the returning Chennai Super Kings. The franchise from south of India snatched him away from the clutches of Kings XI Punjab using the 'Right to Match' card paying a whopping Rs. 6.4 cr. Bravo has 122 wickets and 1,238 runs in 106 matches.
Kane Williamson sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad
New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson was bought by his old franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs. 3 cr. In 15 IPL games, Williamson has scored 411 runs at an average of 31.61 and strike rate of 129.24.
Yuvraj a big flop at IPL auctions
Yuvraj Singh, who has always been one of the biggest buys of the IPL auctions, failed to get massive bids and was sold for his base price Rs. 2 cr to Kings XI Punjab. Yuvraj, who has previously played for the franchise, has scored 2,587 runs in 120 matches at an average of 25.61 and a strike rate of 131.18.
