Ishan Kishan becomes most expensive player of IPL 2022 Auction
Indian wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan has returned to Mumbai Indians. The five-time IPL champions have bought him for a whopping Rs. 15.25 crore in the IPL 2022 auction. Kishan eclipsed Shreyas Iyer to become the most expensive player of the ongoing auction. As expected, several franchises were involved in an intense bidding war to acquire the emerging youngster. Here are further details.
A look at Kishan's career
Ishan Kishan made his IPL debut in 2016 when he featured in a match for Gujarat Lions against Punjab Kings. He has played 61 matches and scored 1,452 runs at a strike rate of 136.34. He has 9 half-centuries to his name.
Second-most expensive Indian at the IPL Auction
Kishan has become the second-most expensive Indian at the IPL Auction. He is only behind former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who was bought for Rs. 16 crore by Delhi Capitals in 2015. Interestingly, Mumbai Indians had never bought any player for more than Rs. 10 crore at the auction before. In 2011, MI had bought Rohit for Rs. 9.2 crore.
A look at his journey
Gujarat Lions bought Kishan for Rs. 35 lakh in 2016. It was his debut season in the IPL. In 2018, Mumbai Indians acquired his services for Rs. 6.2 crore. The left-handed batter was Mumbai's highest run-scorer in the 2020 season. He smashed 516 runs from 14 matches at an incredible average of 57.33. Kishan had a strike rate of 145.76 in that season.
