IPL 2022 Auction: Harshal Patel goes back to RCB
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction on Saturday saw Indian pacer Harshal Patel be bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB spent a whopping Rs. 10.75 crore for the services of the IPL 2021 Purple Cap winner. Notably, RCB had released the pacer ahead of the auction. Harshal won the Purple Cap last season
Harshal was the standout performer for RCB with the ball in IPL 2021. He picked 32 wickets in the previous season in just 15 games to finish the tournament as the leading wicket-taker. He averaged 14.34. Overall, he has picked up 78 wickets, including a fifer, in the cash-rich league in 63 games. He has maintained an economy rate of 8.58 in the competition.
RCB had earlier retained these players
Three-time IPL finalists RCB had retained three players - one overseas and two Indians - during the players' retention. The Bangalore based outfit acquired the services of their former skipper Virat Kohli for the 2022 season for Rs. 15 crore. They spent Rs. 11 crore on Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and are paying Rs. 7 crore to Indian seamer Mohammed Siraj.
Harshal adds a fine balance
Harshal will aim to build on his performance from last season. He is a genuine wicket-taker and has plenty of variations. His presence will be a huge lift for this RCB side. Harshal could have another major season for RCB.
