IPL 2022 Auction: Boult goes to RR
Kiwi pacer Trent Boult was purchased by Rajasthan Royals in the mega Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction on Saturday. Boult, who was released by Mumbai Indians, did a commendable job of late in the tournament. RCB and DC had an intense bidding war before RR snapped him up for Rs. 8 crore. The former DC bowler was one of the 10 marquee players.
Boult's IPL numbers
Boult did well for Mumbai Indians of late before being released by the franchise. Boult finished IPL 2021 with 13 wickets in his kitty from 14 games. Prior to last season, he had taken 25 wickets in IPL 2020. Overall, the left-arm pacer has bagged 76 wickets in 62 games at 26.09. Boult had registered himself under Rs. 2 crore bracket.
In Boult, RR get a champion performer
In Boult, RR get a champion performer in T20 cricket. He had earlier shown his mettle for KKR, DC, and MI. And now, it's a new side for Boult, who will be keen to continue his sound IPL form.
RR had retained these players
The inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals retained just three cricketers during the players' retention. The Rajasthan based team's first retention was their skipper Sanju Samson (Rs. 14 crore). They secured the services of England's wicket-keeper batter Jos Buttler for Rs. 10 crore. RR are paying Rs. 4 crore to young and upcoming Indian star Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Rajasthan have been superb in the auction
Besides Boult, the Royals have added Devdutt Padikkal in the side for a whopping Rs. 7.75 crore. They also got the services for West Indies star Shimron Hetmyer for Rs. 8.5 crore. RR have also bought veteran Indian spinner R Ashwin for Rs. 5 crore.
