IPL: Ajinkya Rahane to leave Rajasthan Royals for Delhi Capitals
It seems to be the end of the road for senior cricketer Ajinkya Rahane as far his journey with Rajasthan Royals is concerned in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-handed batsman represented RR for a total of seven seasons. And now, he is set to be traded off to Delhi Capitals ahead of the next season. Here's more.
Rahane's statistics in the Indian Premier League
Overall in IPL, Rahane has played 140 matches. He has scored 3,820 runs at an average of 32.93. Rahane has also registered two hundreds and 27 fifties. The versatile batsman has smashed 404 fours and 74 sixes. A safe fielder, he has accounted for 55 catches. For RR, he went on to amass 2,810 runs across seven seasons.
Rahane's journey so far in the IPL
Rahane made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2008. He got limited chances across the two seasons he spent there. He took a break in IPL 2010 and joined the Royals in 2011. From 2011 to 2015, Rahane enjoyed his best seasons. With RR banned for two years (2016-17), he moved to Rising Pune Supergiant. RR got him back in IPL 2018.
DC set to acquire Rahane on Thursday
DC have been interested in getting the player for a while now. According to a report in Hindustan Times, RR are expected to get two players in return for Rahane as the trade window is set to shut down on Thursday, November 14. Rahane has a price tag of Rs. 4 crore. Rahane will get to work under head coach Ricky Ponting at DC.
DC to bolster their batting with Rahane's acquisition
DC, who reached the playoffs in IPL 2019, have a strong batting line-up on offer. Last season, they roped in Shikhar Dhawan from Sunrisers Hyderabad. They also have quality in the form of Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Hanuma Vihari. The experience brought into the side by Rahane will further bolster the side. He seems to be a smart move.
DC roped in Ashwin from KXIP
Last week, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) traded senior off-spinner R Ashwin to DC. KXIP went on to receive Rs. 1.5 crore for Ashwin and also got Karnataka spinner Jagadeesha Suchith in return. Ashwin had captained KXIP for two seasons and joined the Shreyas Iyer-led DC. Ashwin is expected to be paid Rs. 7.6 crore by the Delhi Capitals, which is his auction value.
