What's the story
Lucknow Super Giants beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 7 of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Blistering knocks from Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh helped the Super Giants chase down 191.
Earlier Shardul Thakur's historic 4/34 restricted the Orange Army to a sub-200 total (190/9).
With this, LSG have opened their account in the ongoing IPL season.

How SRH's innings panned out
Thakur struck early for LSG after they elected to field.
They broke the crucial Travis Head-Abhishek Sharma opening stand after dismissing the latter. He sent back Ishan Kishan too.
Meanwhile, substantial knocks from Head, Nitish Reddy (32), Heinrich Klaasen (26), and Aniket Verma (36) kept SRH afloat.
Although SRH were down to 156/7, cameos from Pat Cummins (18) and Harshal Patel (12*) powered them.

Pooran, Marsh make the chase one-sided
LSG lost Aiden Markram quite early in the run-chase.
However, his dismissal didn't affect them much, as the Pooran show followed. The Caribbean dasher added a century-plus stand with Marsh.
While Marsh played second fiddle, Pooran steered the Orange Army past 100 in just 7.3 overs.
Although LSG lost Pooran, Marsh, and then Rishabh Pant, David Miller and Abdul Samad got them home.

Another blistering knock from Pooran
Pooran continued his rich vein of form after smashing 75 in LSG's opener.
The LSG dasher played in a similar manner, hammering sixes all around the ground.
He smashed 70 off just 26 balls, a knock laced with 6 fours and as many sixes. His strike-rate read a staggering 269.23.
Pooran slammed his 11th half-century in the IPL.

Second-fastest IPL fifty for LSG
Pooran raced to his fifty off just 18 balls, the fastest of the ongoing season.
As per Cricbuzz, this was also the second-fastest half-century for LSG in the IPL. The fastest fifty in this regard also belongs to him (15 balls vs RCB in Bengaluru in 2023).
As mentioned, Pooran has crossed the 50-run mark in each of his two knocks this season.

As per Cricbuzz, Pooran has reached 50 in fewer than 20 balls four times, the most in the IPL. Head and Jake Fraser-McGurk follow the Caribbean batter with three such scores each.

Pooran and Marsh added 116 runs, the highest second-wicket (or below) partnership for LSG.
The previous-highest such stand was 111 between KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda against Rajasthan Royals in Lucknow from IPL 2024.
According to Cricbuzz, LSG scored their fastest-ever team 100 (in 7.3 overs). Their previous-fastest team 100 came in 7.4 overs against Punjab Kings in Mohali in 2023.

With Pooran and Marsh's exploits, LSG were 77/1 after six overs. This is now their second-highest Powerplay total in the IPL, only behind 80/1 against Chennai Super Kings from IPL 2023 in Chennai.

Marsh slams another fifty, completed 4,500 T20 runs
Like Pooran, his batting partner Marsh smashed a half-century in his second successive match. He earlier slammed a fifty on LSG debut.
Marsh once again played some scintillating strokes in his 31-ball 52 (7 fours and 2 sixes). This was his fifth half-century in the IPL.
The Aussie batter also raced past 4,500 runs in T20 cricket.

Thakur shines with early strikes
As mentioned, Thakur made early inroads in SRH's star-studded batting line-up.
He dismissed Abhishek and Ishan on successive balls, which brought SRH down to 15/2.
Thakur then removed Abhinav Manohar in his final spell at the back end. His final wicket came in the form of Mohammed Shami.
The LSG pacer returned figures worth 4/34 from four overs.

Career-best bowling figures
Thakur registered his career-best bowling figures in the IPL. He delivered as many as 11 dot balls.
His previous-best IPL figures were 4/36, which came for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2022 season.
Overall, Thakur has become the seventh player with a four-wicket haul for LSG in the IPL. He has the fifth-best bowling figures in this regard.

Thakur completes 100 IPL wickets
Thakur also completed 100 IPL wickets during the innings. He reached the landmark in his 97th encounter.
Thakur has an average of under 30, while he has a sub-10 economy rate in the tournament.
The Indian all-rounder was earlier a mainstay pacer for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He also has over 300 runs with the bat.
