IPL 2025: Captain Shubman Gill joins Gujarat Titans camp
What's the story
Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill has reached Ahmedabad ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
The team is all set to begin their run against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
This comes after a dismal 2024 season where GT finished eighth with just five victories from 14 matches, and two matches ended without results.
Challenging season
Gill took charge in 2024
The Titans failed to make the playoffs last year after a captaincy overhaul. Their 2022 title-winning captain Hardik Pandya controversially returned to his original team, Mumbai Indians (MI).
Gill also had a disappointing season with the bat, scoring 426 runs from 12 innings at an average of 38.72. His strike-rate was over 147.
He couldn't replicate his outstanding performance from the previous year where he scored 890 runs from 17 matches at an average of over 59.
Record
A look at Gill's IPL careerĀ
Despite the struggles last season, Gill continues to be GT's leading run-scorer with 1,799 runs from 45 innings at an average of nearly 45 and a strike-rate of around 148.
He has scored four centuries and 10 half-centuries for the franchise, with the highest score being an impressive 129.
Gill started his IPL journey with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2018. He scored 1,417 runs from 58 games at 31.48 for the franchise.
