IPL 2025: Five overseas debutants to watch to out for
What's the story
The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will start on March 22, with the final match on May 25.
The tournament will see 10 teams play 74 matches at different venues across India.
182 players were auctioned at the IPL mega auction last year in Jeddah, with a remarkable representation from overseas players.
Here we look at the five probable overseas debutants who might set IPL 2024 on fire.
#1
Josh Inglis
Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis is in line to make his IPL debut with Punjab Kings.
The 30-year-old cricketer was bought for ₹2.60 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Notably, he is one of the four Australian players to score a century in all three formats of international cricket.
As the dasher has been on the rise lately, many expect him to be the 'x-factor' in PBKS's campaign.
Inglis has scored four tons in T20 cricket.
Player 2
Ryan Rickelton
South African wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton might make his IPL debut in 2025, representing Mumbai Indians. The franchise secured him for ₹1 crore.
Rickelton has previously played 25 matches in SA20 for MI's sister franchise MI Cape Town and has participated in 13 T20Is for South Africa.
He scored a ton in the recent ICC Champions Trophy. The left-handed Rickelton can form a formidable opening pair with Rohit Sharma.
The former owns a strike rate of 141.32 in T20 cricket.
Player 3
Jamie Overton
England all-rounder Jamie Overton, who was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at a steal deal of ₹1.5 crore, can be a game changer.
He can constantly clock over 140 KPH besides contributing with his big-hitting lower down the order.
His T20 batting strike rate of 157.65 is a testament to the same.
The fast bowling all-rounder, who is 6 ft 5 in tall, also owns a bowling average of 26.94.
Player 4
Jacob Bethell
Jacob Bethell, another young England all-rounder, will be making his IPL debut with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The franchise bought the 21-year-old cricketer for ₹2.60 crore in the mega auction.
Bethell made his debut in all three formats of the game last year and has been on the rise ever since.
The southpaw can score consistently in the middle order besides bowling a few handy overs of left-arm spin.
Player 5
Matthew Breetzke
South African batter Matthew Breetzke will don the Lucknow Super Giants jersey in IPL 2025.
The right-handed wicketkeeper-batter was bought for ₹75 lakh by the franchise.
Breetzke made headlines recently as the first-ever batter to score 150 runs on ODI debut last month.
All these factors make Breetzke a formidable back-up for the opening and wicket-keeping slots.
He strikes at 132.33 in T20 cricket.
