Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Decoding their IPL 2024 season in stats
Royal Challengers Bengaluru failed to lift the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy for the 17th season running. The Challengers were downed by Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator. Kohli dominates the scoring
Kohli scored a whopping 741 runs in 15 matches at 61.75. His strike rate was 154.69. This was his best campaign since IPL 2016 (973 runs). Kohli hammered one century and five fifties. He also hit 38 sixes, the joint-most by him in an IPL season. He hit 38 sixes in 2016. Kohli also became the first batter with 8,000 IPL runs (8,004).
Patidar equals Gayle's record by hitting 30 sixes (middle overs)
Rajat Patidar enjoyed a successful season, scoring 395 runs from 15 matches at 30.38. He owned a solid strike rate worth 177.13 (50s: 5). Patidar, who slammed 33 sixes, saw 30 of his sixes come in the middle overs (7-15). He matched the tally of Universe Boss Chris Gayle in terms of owning the most sixes in overs 7-15 in an IPL campaign.
Maxwell has a dismal campaign with the bat
Glenn Maxwell recorded a golden duck in the all-important Eliminator against RR. This marked Maxwell's fourth duck of IPL 2024, the joint second-most by a batter in a season. Overall, this was Maxwell's 18th duck, the joint-most by a batter in the IPL. Maxwell scored 52 runs from 10 matches at a paltry average of 5.78. His strike-rate read 120.93.
Skipper du Plessis had a decent season
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis managed 438 runs from 15 matches at 29.20. He registered four fifties (second-highest). Du Plessis registered the second-most fours (47) after Kohli (62).
Key batting stats
RCB stitched three century-plus stands with an unbeaten 166 between Will Jacks and Kohli against GT in Ahmedabad topping the list. In addition to Kohli's 113* versus RR in Jaipur, Jacks was the other centurion for RCB. He smashed an unbeaten 100 against GT. RCB posted six scores of 200-plus. The 262/7 against SRH was their second-best score in IPL history.
Dayal and Siraj claimed 15 scalps each
Yash Dayal and Mohammed Siraj finished with 15 wickets each for RCB in IPL 2024. Dayal averaged 30.60 and his economy rate was 9.14. Siraj averaged 33.06 (ER: 9.18). Australian all-rounder Cameron Green was the only other bowler to register 10-plus scalps (10) at 30.30. No RCB bowler managed a four-fer or a five-wicket haul. Dayal's 3/20 was the best performance.
Unwanted record for Topley
Reece Topley conceded 1/68 versus SRH in April. This was the joint-second-most runs conceded by a bowler in IPL 2024 alongside MI's Luke Wood (1/68 versus DC). Mohit Sharma's 0/73 versus DC in IPL 2024 is the worst figures in the cash-rich league.
24 wickets for RCB in the powerplay
