IPL: Rahul Tripathi becomes third SRH batter with this feat
Rahul Tripathi smashed a valiant half-century for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) Qualifier 1 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Tripathi hammered a 35-ball 55 after the Orange Army were down to 39/4. An untimely run-out ended his stay. Notably, Tripathi has become the third batter with a fifty for SRH in the IPL playoffs.
A counter-attacking knock from Tripathi
SRH lost their star openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma within two overs after they elected to bat. Tripathi, who joined in, found no support from Nitsh Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed. The Indian batter then launched his counter-attack and propelled SRH from 39/4 to 100 along with Heinrich Klaasen. Tripathi was dismissed run-out against the run of play in the 14th over.
Tripathi strikes at 157.14
Tripathi eventually smashed 55 off 35 balls, a knock laced with 7 fours and 1 six. He was run-out in the 14th over bowled by Sunil Narine as his batting partner Abdul Samad attempted to steal a run.
Tripathi joins Warner and Williamson
As mentioned, Tripathi is the third batter with a half-century for SRH in the IPL playoffs. Both David Warner (93* and 69) and Kane Williamson (67 and 50*) have achieved this feat twice. This makes Tripathi the first Indian to unlock this achievement. Notably, the Indian batter's 55 is now the fourth-highest individual score for SRH in the IPL playoffs.
