IPL 2024: Mitchell Starc bounces back with three-fer against LSG
Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Mitchell Starc bowled magnificently against Lucknow Super Giants in Match 28 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at Eden Gardens. The left-arm pacer, who was earlier under the scanner, took three wickets as KKR restricted LSG to 161/7 in 20 overs. Notably, KKR picked Starc for a record-breaking Rs. 24.75 crore at the IPL 2024 auction.
Starc proves his mettle
Starc once again had a forgettable start as he conceded 18 runs in his first two overs. Notably, 10 of these runs came in the innings' first over. However, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer backed Starc and gave him another over, which produced Deepak Hooda's wicket. Starc then bowled the final over, dismissing Arshad Khan and Nicholas Pooran. He conceded 28 runs in four overs.
Most expensive player in IPL history
As mentioned, Starc became the most expensive IPL signing ever when KKR secured him for a mammoth Rs. 24.75 crore at the 2024 auction. They fought hard against Gujarat Titans before picking the Aussie speedster. KKR broke the bank for him in 2018 when they got him for Rs. 9.40 crore but he opted out due to injury.
A look at his IPL journey
Starc, who returned to the IPL after nine years, has finally gained redemption. Before this match, he took just three wickets and was quite expensive in the ongoing season. Starc, who has also played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has now raced to 39 wickets from 32 matches at a remarkable average of 22.44. The tally includes an economy rate of 7.63.
