IPL 2024, MI vs RCB: Here are the key battles
Mumbai Indians are set to host Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 25 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Hardik Pandya-led side would like to stay on the winning track after beating Delhi Capitals. Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers are coming off three successive defeats. The upcoming game offers quite a few intriguing player battles.
Virat Kohli vs Jasprit Bumrah
The long-time rivalry between Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah is set to renew at the Wankhede Stadium. Interestingly, Bumrah took his first-ever IPL wicket in the form of Kohli, back in 2013. While Bumrah has dismissed Kohli four times, the latter strikes at 152.17 in this battle (140 runs off 92 balls). Kohli has struck 5 sixes against Bumrah.
Rohit Sharma vs Yash Dayal
Over the years, left-arm pacers have troubled Rohit Sharma early in the innings. Although Rohit has overcome this shortcoming, the in-swinging deliveries from left-armers still perturb him. Notably, left-arm pacers have dismissed him 25 times in 92 IPL innings. RCB's Yash Dayal will look to uproot Rohit early on. Dayal, who made his IPL debut in 2022, hasn't played against MI yet.
Glenn Maxwell vs Piyush Chawla
Glenn Maxwell hasn't been at his best in the ongoing IPL season. He touched the double-figure mark in only one match, against Kolkata Knight Riders. MI's veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who has dismissed Maxwell thrice in 45 balls, could be tasked to uproot him. However, the battle could go south as Maxwell strikes at 168.88 against Chawla in the tournament.
Suryakumar Yadav vs Mohammed Siraj
Suryakumar Yadav recently returned to action after undergoing months of rehabilitation. However, he recorded a two-ball duck in his comeback game, against DC. When on song, SKY can single-handedly turn the tide against any opposition. His battle against Mohammed Siraj will be one to watch out for. While Siraj has dismissed SKY once, the latter strikes at 225.92 (61 runs off 27 balls).
