Sunrisers Hyderabad continue their record-breaking spree in the ongoing Indian Premier League season. They beat the Delhi Capitals after defending 266/7 in Delhi, their third 250+ total in IPL 2024. Jake Fraser-McGurk slammed an 18-ball 65, but DC were restricted to 199/10 (19.1 overs). Earlier, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma added a record-breaking 131-run opening stand. T Natarajan recorded a four-fer for SRH.

Head and Abhishek added 131 runs (6.1) after DC elected to field. Kuldeep Yadav took a few quick wickets before Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz took SRH past 200. They compiled 266/7, with Kuldeep taking a four-fer. DC, despite being down to 25/2, had a flying start. Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel helped DC cross 100. T Natarajan took four wickets as DC perished for 199.
Highest Powerplay score in T20 cricket
SRH openers Head and Abhishek came out all guns blazing. They brought up SRH's fifty in just 2.4 overs, with 19 runs coming in the first.abhis Head reached his half-century off just 16 balls in the third over. The Aussie batter, alongside Abhishek, clobbered 125/0 in the first six overs, now the highest powerplay score in T20 cricket.
SRH post fastest team hundred in IPL history
SRH finished on 103/0 after five overs. This is now the fastest team hundred in IPL history (in terms of overs taken). Both Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders attained the milestone in six overs, respectively.
Head goes berserk in Delhi
Head smashed 89 off 32 balls, a knock laced with 11 fours and 6 sixes. The left-hander smashed a 10-ball 32 in the first two overs. In the very next over, he smacked Anrich Nortje for 4 fours and a six. Mukesh Kumar was also on the receiving end, having conceded 22 runs against Head. Kuldeep eventually dismissed Head in the ninth over.
Head smashes joint-fastest IPL fifty for SRH
As mentioned, Head now has the joint-fastest half-century for SRH in the IPL. He shares the record with Abhishek, who smashed a 16-ball fifty earlier this season against the Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad.

While SRH were 125/0 after six overs, Head contributed with a 26-ball 84. This is now the highest individual Powerplay score for SRH in the IPL. Head has now scored 50+ runs in the Powerplay thrice in the IPL. Chris Gayle and Sunil Narine have also done this thrice. Notably, David Warner tops this list with six such scores.
A 12-ball 46 from Abhishek
While Head majorly took on the DC bowlers, Abhishek unleashed his carnage in just 12 balls. The latter slammed 2 fours and 6 sixes in his 12-ball 46 (SR: 383.33). Abhishek has been among the runs in IPL 2024, maintaining a strike rate of 215.97. Overall, Abhishek has raced to 1,150 IPL runs at a strike rate of 149.54.
Other unique batting records for SRH
SRH now have the highest-ever score after the first 10 overs in the IPL (158/4). The Orange Army broke their own record as they smashed 148/2 in 10 overs against MI in Hyderabad earlier this season. SRH now own the joint-most 250+ totals in franchise T20 cricket. They share this record with Surrey. SRH reached 200 in 14.4 overs, the third-fastest in the IPL.
Shahbaz slams his maiden IPL fifty
As mentioned, SRH lost four quick wickets against the run of play (154/4). This exposed Shahbaz, who joined Reddy. The duo propelled the Sunrisers past 200. While Reddy departed for 37(27), Shahbaz took SRH beyond 260. He smashed 5 sixes and 2 fours in his 29-ball 59*. Shahbaz, a spin-bowling all-rounder, slammed his maiden half-century in the IPL.
Kuldeep records his fourth IPL four-fer
Kuldeep, who conceded 20 runs in his first over (match's fifth), dismissed Abhishek and Aiden Markram right after the powerplay. Despite conceding runs, Kuldeep went on to dismiss Head and Reddy. He conceded 55 runs in four overs. Kuldeep recorded his fourth four-wicket haul in the IPL. It was his maiden four-fer in the ongoing season.
Fraser-McGurk slams DC's fastest IPL fifty
Fraser-McGurk and Abishek (42 off 22 balls) flew the Capitals past 100 in the seventh over. Fraser-McGurk, who departed soon after, smashed 65 off 18 balls (5 fours and 7 sixes). The Aussie batter reached his fifty off just 15 balls, now the fastest for DC in the IPL. Overall, Fraser-McGurk notched up the joint third-fastest IPL half-century with Yusuf Pathan (in 2014).
Natarajan takes four, bowls a maiden
Mayank Markande and Reddy turned the match in SRH's favor after breaking Jake-Abishek's stand. T Natarajan, who surprisingly bowled a maiden over in a high-scoring encounter, cleaned up DC's tail. He dismissed Lalit Yadav (166/6) before removing Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje and Kuldeep in his final over. The left-arm seamer conceded just 19 runs in four overs.
Bhuvneshwar becomes first bowler with 150 wickets for SRH
Right-arm pacer Bhuvneshwar finally regained his rhythm. He got rid of the dangerous Warner early in the innings. With this, Bhuvneshwar became the first bowler to complete 150 wickets for SRH in the IPL. Moreover, he remains the only bowler with over 100 IPL wickets for the Orange Army. Rashid Khan, who now plays for Gujarat Titans, follows Bhuvi with 93 wickets.

As many as 71 boundaries (fours and sixes) were scored in the match, the second-most in an IPL match. It is worth noting that SRH equaled their own record of smashing the most sixes in an IPL game (22). They also smashed as many maximums against Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier this season. Notably, three of the four highest IPL totals now belong to SRH.
