CSK hand KKR their maiden defeat of IPL 2024: Stats
Kolkata Knight Riders have finally suffered their maiden defeat in the ongoing 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) as Chennai Super Kings thrashed them by seven wickets in Match 21 in Chennai. It was a one-sided affair as CSK restricted the Knight Riders to 137/9 before chasing down the total in 17.4 overs. Tushar Deshpande, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad starred for the Super Kings.
KKR posted a below-par total
After losing Phil Salt on the very first ball of the game, Sunil Narine (27) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (24) consolidated for KKR with a fiery 56-run stand. Jadeja then struck thrice in no time as the Knight Riders could not recover thereafter. Though Shreyas Iyer stayed until the final over, he could only manage a 32-ball 34 as KKR could only manage 137/9.
CSK chase down the target with ease
CSK did not have much trouble while chasing the below-par target. Rachin Ravindra (15) and Gaikwad (67) added 27 runs before Vaibhav Arora dismissed the former. The CSK captain was then involved in a match-defining 70-run stand with Daryl Mitchell (25). Gaikwad found another potent partner in Shivam Dube (28) after Mitchell's departure as the duo powered CSK over the line.
Fourth-highest wicket-taker versus KKR
Jadeja was the pick of the CSK bowlers, having claimed 3/18 in four overs. His tally of 22 wickets against KKR is now the fourth-most for any bowler (ER: 7.36). Jadeja has raced to 156 wickets at an economy of 7.58. In CSK colors, he boasts 138 scalps (ER: 7.66). The all-rounder also boasts 2,776 IPL runs.
Rahman goes to the top
Mustafizur Rahman also bowled a crucial spell as he claimed 2/22 in four overs. He is now the leading wicket-taker of the ongoing season, having raced to nine wickets across four games at 14.22. Overall, he has raced to 56 IPL scalps at 28.07.
Three-fer for Deshpande
Deshpande finished his spell with 3/33 in four overs. With this spell, he has tallied 30 wickets in 28 IPL appearances at a higher economy of 9.84 (5 vs KKR). He was CSK's highest wicket-taker last season with 21 scalps in 16 matches (ER: 9.92). Overall, he has raced to 104 T20 wickets in 72 games, conceding runs at around 8.5 runs per over.
Fifty for Gaikwad
Gaikwad batted well for his unbeaten 67 off 58 balls (9 fours). This was his maiden fifty in the IPL 2024 as the CSK skipper has raced to 1,952 IPL runs at 39.04 (100: 1). While this was his 15th IPL fifty, the star batter recorded his third half-century against the Knight Riders. The batter now tallies 327 runs against them at 46.71.
