IPL 2022, RCB hand RR their maiden defeat: Records broken
Rajasthan Royals tasted defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in match number 13 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season on Tuesday. Put into bat, RR posted a competitive 169/2 in 20 overs. Jos Buttler led the way with 70*. RCB were 87/5 at one stage before Shahbaz Ahmed (43) and Dinesh Karthik (44*) took the game away in style. How did the match pan out?
RR lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early on before Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal added 70 runs. The Royals were reduced to 86/2 next before Buttler and Shimron Hetmyer finished off the innings. RR struggled to find momentum but the last two overs were fruitful. They managed 42 runs. In response, RCB openers added runs upfront before losing their way. However, Ahmed and DK stole the show.
Buttler gets past 200 runs in IPL 2022
Buttler made his presence felt with a significant unbeaten 70 on a difficult surface. The Englishman hammered six sixes in a 47-ball effort. Buttler has become the first batter in IPL 2022 to surpass the 200-run mark. He has scored 205 runs at 102.50. Overall, Buttler has 2,173 runs at 37.46. He has smashed 12 IPL fifties. Against RCB, he has amassed 298 runs.
Padikkal and Hetmyer chip in
Padikkal chipped in with a 29-ball 37. He slammed two fours and two sixes. The southpaw has raced to 969 runs in the IPL. Hetmyer hit a 31-ball 42*, playing another crucial knock. He smashed four fours and two sixes. Hetmyer has 626 runs in the IPL, hammering his best score this season. He shared an unbeaten 83-run stand alongside Buttler.
Harshal Patel equals Imran Tahir's tally
Harshal was terrific with the ball for RCB, claiming figures worth 1/18. He has now raced to 82 IPL scalps, equaling the tally of Imran Tahir. Harshal has an average of 22.84. He has 14 wickets versus RR at just 14.14. In IPL 2022, the right-arm pacer has claimed four wickets so far from three games.
Shahbaz and DK punish sloppy RR
RCB were reduced to 87/5 after being 55/0 at one stage. However, Shahbaz and DK took charge. DK came in and hammered Ashwin in the 14th over. The next two overs saw Navdeep Saini and Prasidh Krishna get battered. Shahbaz and DK added 67 runs for the sixth wicket. Shahbaz was finally dismissed by Trent Boult in the 18th over.
Chahal impresses against his former side
Yuzvendra Chahal was prolific against his former side RCB. The wrist-spinner took two crucial scalps. He now has 146 wickets, surpassing Sunil Narine (145). He is the joint-sixth highest wicket-taker in the IPL alongside R Ashwin. This season, Chahal has claimed seven scalps so far.
Boult races to 81 wickets, surpasses Irfan
Boult picked up 2/34 from his four overs. He has raced to 81 wickets in the IPL at 25.54. Boult surpassed Irfan Pathan's tally of 80 scalps. Against RCB, Boult has now claimed 13 wickets from eight games.
