IPL 2022, RCB beat KKR: List of records broken
The Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Kolkata Knight Riders in match number six of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season on Wednesday. KKR struggled to get going and their aggressive approach didn't work. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals to be bowled out for a paltry 128. Wanindu Hasaranga (4/20) was the chief architect. In response, RCB chased down the target.
KKR falter with the bat
KKR opener Venkatesh Iyer was left frustrated after failing to get any momentum and was hurried on to the short ball. Ajinkya Rahane departed thereafter to another short ball. Nitish Rana and Shreyas Iyer looked good but threw their wickets away. Post that, besides Andre Russell's 25 and Umesh Yadav's 18 saw KKR get past 100. Hasaranga and Harshal Patel were terrific.
How did RCB's innings pan out?
RCB started poorly as well with the bat and were reduced to 17/3. However, David Willey and Sherfane Rutherford added a valuable partnership to resurrect the innings. Sunil Narine bowled well for KKR, not giving anything away. He broke the stand at a crucial juncture. RCB stayed in the game but KKR picked up crucial wickets. RCB sealed the game thereafter.
Harshal surpasses Irfan Pathan
Harshal came in late on and weaved his magic. He was unplayable and got two wickets for just 11 runs. He bowled two maiden overs. Harshal has now raced to 81 IPL scalps at 22.90. He surpassed Irfan Pathan's tally in terms of wickets (80). Harshal now has 12 wickets versus KKR at 22.83. He registered his best bowling performance versus KKR.
Russell achieves these numbers in terms of sixes
Russell (25) slammed three sixes and a four. He has raced to 146 sixes in the IPL. The big-hitting West Indian has now smashed 38 sixes versus RCB. He has equaled David Warner's tally of sixes versus KKR (38). Only MS Dhoni (46) has hit more maximums. As per Cricketpedia, Russell has the second-highest number of sixes in IPL since 2018 (78).
Hasaranga registers this feat
Hasaranga notched his maiden four-wicket haul in the IPL. He finished with 4/20 from four overs at an economy rate of 5.00. Hasaranga's spell is now the fourth-best by a bowler for RCB versus KKR in the IPL. Dwayne Smith (4/8) holds the best figures.
Umesh gets to 123 IPL wickets
Umesh Yadav was excellent for KKR at the top, claiming two wickets. He removed the likes of Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli. Umesh (2/16) has raced to 123 wickets in the IPL. He has also claimed 12 wickets in 13 matches versus RCB. Umesh now has 52 wickets for KKR in the IPL. He has claimed four wickets in the ongoing season.
Narine bowls a sensational spell
Narine has been superb in the ongoing season. After 0/15 against CSK, the veteran spinner hardly gave away anything against RCB. He now has 144 wickets in the IPL, including 21 versus RCB. He claimed figures worth 1/12 from his four overs.
Southee registers his best bowling figures
Tim Southee was sensational for KKR, claiming three wickets for just 20 runs. The veteran Kiwi pacer now has 34 IPL scalps. This is now his best bowling spell in the competition.
