IPL 2022: Ravindra Jadeja is the new captain of CSK
MS Dhoni has handed over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings to premier all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. Dhoni chose Jadeja to lead the side, who has been an integral part of CSK since 2012. Interestingly, Jadeja will become only the third player to lead CSK in the IPL. Here are the details.

Jadeja has been a champion performer
In the last couple of seasons, Jadeja has established himself as one of the most effective all-rounders in the cash-rich league. In IPL 2021, he racked up 227 runs at a magnificent average of 75.66. He also picked up 13 wickets with an economy of 7.06. Overall, he has 2,386 runs and 127 wickets to his name.

"MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond," an official statement of CSK read.

Right time for Jadeja to lead the side
According to ESPNcricinfo, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said that Dhoni wanted the transition in captaincy to be smooth. He also felt that Jadeja was ready to step up as the team's leader as the latter is in rich vein of form and the timing is perfect. Viswanathan also said that Dhoni had announced the decision on Thursday at the team meeting.
CSK vs KKR in IPL 2022 opener
The opening match of IPL 2022 sees four-time winners CSK face last season's finalists KKR in a mouth-watering contest. In terms of head-to-head, CSK enjoy an 18-9 record in wins over KKR. The match is scheduled to take place on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It will start at 7:30 PM IST.
