IPL 2022, Delhi Capitals trounce Mumbai Indians: Records broken
Mumbai Indians failed to get past the line against Delhi Capitals in match number two of the Indian Premier League 2022 season on Sunday. Batting first, MI rode on Ishan Kishan's unbeaten 81 to post a challenging 177/5 in 20 overs. In response, DC were tottering at one stage before Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel changed the game. Here are the details.
MI ride on Kishan's 48-ball 81*
MI openers Rohit Sharma and Kishan added 67 runs for the opening wicket. Rohit managed 41 from 32 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes. MI's middle-order couldn't quite come together and bring any stability. Only, Tilak Varma got a cameo (22). MI depended heavily on Kishan, whose unbeaten 81 helped them get past 175. For DC, Kuldeep Yadav claimed three wickets.
How did DC's innings pan out?
DC got off to a flier (30/0) with Tim Seifert smashing four boundaries in a 21-run effort. However, DC lost three quick wickets to be reeling at 32/3. Murugan Ashwin did the damage. Prithvi Shaw chipped in with a well made 24-ball 38. DC were reduced to 104/6 before Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel batted well.
Kishan achieves these feats
Kishan was the main force for MI in what was a pivotal knock versus a sound DC attack. The southpaw smashed his ninth IPL fifty. He has raced to 1,214 runs at 33.72. Kishan is the eighth-highest scorer for MI now in the IPL. He now has 386 runs versus DC at 48.25. This was his third fifty versus DC.
Rohit Sharma slams these records
MI captain Rohit struck a solid 41 upfront. The veteran batter has now become just the second player to smash 900-plus runs versus DC in the IPL. Rohit has 910 runs versus DC at 32.50. The Indian skipper is only behind RCB's Virat Kohli (913). Overall, Rohit has raced to 5,652 runs at 31.22.
Lalit and Axar shine for DC
DC were in a spot of bother after being reduced to 104/6 in the 14th over. From there on, Lalit and Axar shared a defining 75-run stand for the seventh wicket. They smashed the boundaries and helped DC taste success.
