Defending champions Chennai Super Kings will take on the runners-up of the 2021 season, Kolkata Knight Riders, in the tournament opener at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Deepak Chahar to miss majority of IPL 2022
Chennai spent Rs. 14 crore to re-acquire the services of fast bowler Deepak Chahar. However, he is set to miss the majority of the tournament due to a "quadricep tear". Besides, Chennai spent Rs. 4.40 and 6.76 crore for the services of Dwayne Bravo and Ambati Rayudu respectively. They bought back Robin Uthappa for Rs. 2 crore and signed Shivam Dube (Rs. 4 crore).

IPL 2021: CSK won their fourth title
Chennai Super Kings were crowned champions of the IPL 2021. The Yellow Army handed Kolkata Knight Riders a one-sided defeat in the final to win their fourth title. MS Dhoni became the second player after Rohit Sharma to lead a side to four or more IPL titles. Meanwhile, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad won the Orange Cap, having amassed 635 runs from 16 matches at 45.36.
Only player to lead in over 200 IPL games
Dhoni is the most successful captain in the IPL in terms of match-wins (121). He remains the only player to lead in over 200 IPL games. Dhoni is also the only player to lead a side in over 100 IPL matches. Interestingly, Dhoni and West Indies' Daren Sammy are the only players to lead in over 200 T20 games.
