IPL 2022 Auction: Who is Mumbai's latest signing Tilak Varma?
U-19 World Cup star N Tilak Varma was bought by the most successful Indian Premier League franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI) during the 2022 auction on Sunday. Mumbai spent Rs. 1.70 crore to acquire his services for the 15th edition of IPL. Tilak was part of Hyderabad's squad for the 2021 Vijay Hazare tournament. He has also represented Hyderabad in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy.

Tilak has played 16 List A games and amassed 784 runs with his highest score being 156*. He has struck three centuries and as many fifties in the format. Tilak scored 39 runs in his only First-Class game. He has racked up 381 runs in 15 T20 games at an average of 29.30. The 19-year-old has smashed three fifties in the T20s.
Tilak's performance for the U-19 team
He was part of the Indian squad that reached the 2020 ICC U-19 World Cup final, where they were beaten by Bangladesh. Tilak played 23 games for India U-19 between 2019 and 2020. He amassed 661 runs at a decent average of 38.88. He has struck one hundred and four fifties with his highest score being 110.
Players bought by MI in auction
Mumbai shelled out Rs 15.25 crore to re-acquire the services of wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan. They roped in South Africa's U-19 star Dewald Brevis for Rs. 3 crore. Mumbai paid Rs 30 lakh for Basil Thampi and bought Murugan Ashwin for Rs. 1.60 crore. The Rohit Sharma-led outfit purchased Jaydev Unadkat for Rs. 1.30 crore. MI are paying Rs. 50 lakh to Sanjay Yadav.
