Royal Challengers Bangalore overcame Rajasthan Royals in match number 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season on Thursday. Chasing a target of 178, RCB rode on supreme knocks by Devdutt Padikkal (101*) and Virat Kohli (72*) to get the job done at the Wankhede in Mumbai. How did the match pan out?
RR got off to a poor start, losing three wickets for just 18. They were again pegged back at 43/4 before Shivam Dube and Riyan Parag added a fifty-plus stand. Just when RR found some momentum, RCB bowlers hit back. Rahul Tewatia played a brisk innings in the end. In reply, RCB openers Padikkal and Kohli helped RCB win with a brilliant batting display.
Harshal extends wickets tally, Siraj excels
Harshal Patel extended his lead at the top in terms of wickets this season. The right-arm pacer claimed three scalps to race to 12 at just 9.66. The current Purple Cap holder has raced to 58 IPL scalps, going past Shane Warne (57). Mohammed Siraj claimed three wickets for just 27 runs. He has an economy rate of 6.06 in IPL 2021.
Virat Kohli gets past 6,000 runs
RCB skipper Virat Kohli became the first batsman in IPL history to surpass the 6,000-run mark (6,021). The 32-year-old slammed his 40th IPL fifty. Kohli has gone past 500 runs against the Royals, becoming just the sixth player to do so (554). He slammed his fourth fifty against the Royals and is now the fourth-highest scorer against them after Shikhar Dhawan (556).
Kohli and Padikkal stitch record partnership for RCB
Kohli and Padikkal have registered the second-best partnership for any wicket by a side in the IPL against the Royals (181). Their unbeaten stand is also the highest for RCB against RR for any wicket. Their partnership is also the fourth-highest for RCB in the IPL. It is the highest opening stand for RCB in the competition's history.
Padikkal becomes second batsman to hit ton in IPL 2021
Devdutt Padikkal slammed his maiden century in the IPL. Notably, he has become the second batsman in IPL 2021 to hit a ton after Sanju Samson. He has become the third uncapped player to score an IPL ton. He slammed 11 fours and six sixes.
