IPL 2021: SRH need 151 to beat MI in Chennai
Sunrisers Hyderabad did an able job with the ball to restrict Mumbai Indians to 150/5 in 20 overs in match number nine of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season on Saturday. The SRH bowlers contained the MI batsmen after Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma gave the latter a bright start. David Warner will be the happier captain at the break. Here's more.
Mumbai pile up 53 in the PP overs
Mumbai had an excellent start to the game as openers Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma went the aggressive route. The duo added 53 runs in the first six overs. Rohit looked in solid touch, scoring the bulk of runs. De Kock played a supporting act. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mujeeb ur Rahman conceded runs aplenty.
Vijay Shankar impresses with the ball
SRH needed a response and Vijay Shankar provided the same in the seventh over. The all-rounder got the crucial wicket of Rohit. Rohit's premeditated shot didn't work of a cross-seam delivery. Shankar then was smashed for a six by Suryakumar Yadav but he hit back in the next ball. Surya's wicket came at the right time.
How crucial is Rashid Khan for SRH?
Rashid Khan may have gone wicketless for SRH but the Afghan sensation was right on the money once again. He kept things tight and didn't allow MI to free their arms. He ended with figures of 4-0-22-0. He had earlier registered figures of 2/24 and 2/18. Rashid has an impressive economy rate of just 5.39. Last season, the wrist-spinner clocked a rate of 5.37.
MI struggle with the bat once again
After managing scores of 159/9 and 152/10 at the Chepauk Stadium against RCB and KKR respectively, Mumbai didn't break the 160-run barrier once again. They lost against RCB before turning the game from jaws of defeat against KKR. In the death overs (16-20) tonight, MI ended up with a total of 49 runs.
Bhuvneshwar has been poor this season
With figures of 1/45, 1/30, and 0/45, an experienced bowler like Bhuvneshwar has been ordinary. He looks out of form after a good show in the white-ball series against England. He conceded 17 runs of his final over, allowing MI to reach 150.
