IPL 2021: RCB appoint Sanjay Bangar as batting consultant
The Royal Challengers Bangalore have appointed Sanjay Bangar as a batting consultant for the Indian Premier League 2021 season. Bangar, who has earlier severed the batting coach of Team India, will join Mike Hesson, the director of cricket operations for RCB, and Simon Katich, the head coach. The former Indian all-rounder has previously worked as the head coach of Kings XI Punjab.

Bangar has worked in similar capacity earlier
Bangar continued as Team India's batting coach till the 2019 World Cup before Vikram Rathour replaced him. He started as the assistant coach of KXIP during the 2014 season, and was promoted to head coach as the side managed to reach the final. He worked with the franchise till December 2016, after which he stepped down to avoid conflict of interest.
Bangar has represented India in 12 Tests and 15 ODIs
Bangar has also served as a batting coach of now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala. As a player, he was in the rosters of Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders before retiring in 2013. He represented Team India in 12 Tests and 15 ODIs between 2001 and 2004. Bangar was a veteran in First-class cricket, having scored 8,349 runs and picked up 300 wickets for Railways.
RCB released 10 players before the IPL 2021 Auction
The RCB recently released as many as 10 players ahead of the auction. They will be without the retired Parthiv Patel, and Dale Steyn, who decided to skip the tournament this season. Meanwhile, all-rounders Daniel Sams and Harshal Patel were traded from the Delhi Capitals in an all-cash deal. Now, they have 11 slots remaining, which includes three overseas picks.
IPL 2021 Auction to be held on February 18
The IPL auction is set to be held on February 18 in Chennai. A total of 1,097 players have registered for the auction, which comprises 21 India international players, 186 capped international players and 27 players from associate nations. The IPL player registration for the auction closed on February 4. Meanwhile, the tournament is expected to be held in the March-May window in India.
