IPL 2020: Ganguly praises the youngsters, speaks on Suryakumar Yadav

    What's the story

The exclusion of Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav from Team India's squads for the Australian tour was recently slammed by fans and experts across the nation.

However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly's recent comments seem to have cleared the air regarding his selection.

Praising the performance of uncapped Indians in the ongoing IPL edition, Ganguly voiced his opinion on the selection of Suryakumar.

    Quote

'His time will come soon', says Ganguly

Ganguly lavished praise on Suryakumar for his magnificent run in the IPL 2020. He said the latter is on the brink of breaking into the national side. "He is a very good player. His time will come," Ganguly told Hindustan Times.

Suryakumar has been in sublime form in IPL 2020

Over the years, Suryakumar has bostered Mumbai Indians' batting in the IPL.

Ever since he made his IPL debut in 2012, the former KKR star has racked up 2,005 runs from 100 games at an average of 30.37.

Even in the ongoing season, he is making merry with the bat.

So far, he has aggregated 461 runs at a phenomenal average of 41.90.

    Do you know?

    Suryakumar eyes a new landmark

Suryakumar requires only 52 runs to register his career-best tally in an IPL season. In 2018, he amassed 512 runs from 14 games and averaged 36.57. Now that the Mumbai Indians have entered the final, he would want to eclipse this milestone.

    Selection

He was excluded from Team India's squads

Last month, the BCCI announced the Indian squad (across formats) for the impending tour Down Under.

The white-ball squads included a number of domestic names like Ishan Kishan and Varun Chakravarthy, who have been impressive this season.

However, Suryakumar couldn't find a spot even after putting up a terrific show.

The selectors faced a backlash for this snub.

    Youngsters

Ganguly mentions the youngsters who rose to prominence this season

Besides praising Suryakumar, Ganguly also put spotlight on the other uncapped players, who made an impact.

He highlighted the performance of Sanju Samson, Rahul Tripathi, Shubman Gill, Varun Chakravarthy and Devdutt Padikkal among others.

Notably, Padikkal's tally of 472 runs is the most by an uncapped Indian in the IPL history.

Earlier, leg-spinner Chakravarthy scalped only the second IPL five-for by a KKR player.
