Fourth instance of a side electing to bat this season
The game of T20 is usually a batsman's game, while it is also said that it is ideal to chase rather than setting the target first. The theory is highly followed in the IPL. However, Wednesday was the fourth instance in the ongoing IPL where a side elected to bat first. The list started with Delhi, followed by Rajasthan, while CSK have done twice.
Sam Billings becomes CSK's third-ever wicket-keeper
CSK are a side which hardly fiddle with their squad. When it comes to the wicket-keeping department, it is mostly handled by skipper Dhoni himself. However, since today was the fourth instance Dhoni missed a game for CSK, it was time for Sam Billings to do the job. He also became the third man for CSK to do so, after Parthiv Patel and MS.
David Warner scores most half-centuries during power-play in IPL
SRH opener David Warner has been in thrilling form in the IPL this season. He has been repeatedly putting up a commendable shift. He scripted another record this season when he scored his half-century during the power-play against CSK. Warner has scored five half-centuries in the power-play, the most by any batsmen. He is followed by Chris Gayle (3) and Sunil Narine (2).
Warner-Bairstow become the second most successful opening pair
The opening pair of SRH has been their strength and is being considered as the deadliest. Warner and Jonny Bairstow have been on a roll, while they scripted another record tonight. The Warner-Bairstow combination has become the second most successful opening pair in an IPL season. The list is topped by Warner again, along with Shikhar Dhawan, scoring 731 runs in 2016.
SRH score second-highest power-play total this season
Scoring big during the power-play does complete half of the job. SRH have been relying on that mantra a lot this season. Moreover, they have scripted a few records during the power-play this season. Another record was scripted tonight when they scored the second-highest power-play total this season (68). The list is dominated by SRH only, scoring 69 against Rajasthan.
How did the match pan out?
Winning the toss and electing to bat, CSK posted a below-par total of 132/5, as Faf du Plessis scored a 31-ball 45, while Rashid Khan claimed 2/17. In reply, SRH openers put up a solid 66-run stand. Twin half-centuries by Warner and Bairstow ensured SRH steer home comfortably and win by six wickets, with 19 balls to spare.
