IPL12: Rohit doesn't agree with Kohli's suggestion of resting pacers
Team India vice-captain, Rohit Sharma doesn't agree with skipper Virat Kohli's suggestion to rest the country's fast bowlers during the 2019 Indian Premier League. Kohli had suggested that the pacers, who are in contention for the ICC World Cup 2019, should skip a part of the cash-rich league in order to remain fresh. The World Cup starts 10 days after IPL.
What had Kohli suggested to the CoA?
Reports stated that Kohli had presented the idea to the CoA in a meeting held recently in Hyderabad. According to the idea proposed, the pool of pacers will be handed with a choice to either take part in the first phase of IPL or the second one. There was a suggestion that the pacers should be compensated monetarily for their loss in earnings.
Mumbai Indians have two premier pacers
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Sharma is not okay with Kohli's suggestion. This is solely because Mumbai Indians have two premier pacers in Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. "[Rohit] had made it clear that he would not be in a position to rest his main bowlers if side is in the playoffs," an unnamed official told Mumbai Mirror.
Kohli's suggestion was rejected in the meeting
In the meeting, it was decided that the suggestion by Kohli cannot be implemented as franchises would not agree with it. This comes after the BCCI committed the best players to the franchises. However, the BCCI is open to the idea of shifting the IPL to an earlier date. IPL 12 is likely to start from March 29.
Australia, England players won't be available for IPL from May
A few days earlier it was reported that, Cricket Australia and England and Wales Cricket Board have made it clear to the BCCI that their players would not be available for the IPL 2019 after May 1. The decision was taken due to the schedule of the ICC World Cup 2019, which starts from May 30 in England.
SA players could miss final leg of IPL 12
Reports also added that South African players could miss the final leg of the tournament. Cricket South Africa wants Proteas players to leave around May 12. But things could change if the tourney is held in South Africa. A clearer picture can be expected when the auction is held next month. It's scheduled to happen on December 17-18.
