Here is the review of DC's IPL 2019 campaign
After some ordinary campaigns over the years, Delhi Capitals bettered their performance in the 12th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). DC had finished last in IPL 2018 under skipper Shreyas Iyer, but this term, they reached the play-offs. They finished third after losing the Qualifier 2 to Chennai Super Kings. Here we decode DC's campaign and what lies ahead for them.
DC bowled well under the leadership of Kagiso Rabada
DC's bowling was top class in 2019 as their consistency stood out. Kagiso Rabada was their standout performer and needs to be lauded for his efforts. Ishant Sharma brought all his experience into play and enjoyed a strong season. The likes of Keemo Paul and Axar Patel hardly gave anything away. However, Trent Boult couldn't deliver what was expected out of him.
Iyer showed his credentials as skipper
Shreyas Iyer improved drastically as a captain. This was a box, DC would have wanted to tick. What Iyer has displayed in 2019 is that he will be a crucial part of DC's campaigns in upcoming seasons. Iyer also scored 463 runs to take responsibility in the middle order. Coach Ricky Ponting and consultant Sourav Ganguly did plenty of work in the background.
DC's batting lacked the cutting edge
DC's batting lacked the overall edge. The batsmen struggled on slow pitches as they collapsed during crucial moments. Their batting was a let down in Qualifier 2 as well as in the Eliminator. Prithvi Shaw was expected to do great things but didn't reach the heights. Their lack of experience played a role in the knock-outs. Next season, DC will hope to improve things.
DC players promise an exciting future ahead
DC players took the responsibility and what stood out for the franchise was the bunch of youngsters coming together. The northern outfit did specifically well in the league phase. This season will help them identify the core players. With the resources available to them, we expect DC to build on their performance. They still haven't won a silverware yet but 2020 can be different.
