IPL records broken in the first week of 11th edition
T20 cricket is the most exciting and thrilling format of the sport and the IPL is the most dramatic and glamorous ambassador of the shortest format. With the brightest talent from across the world competing in the tournament every year, several records are set while others are broken. Here are the records that were broken in the opening week of IPL 2018.
Most sixes in a single match
The high octane encounter between CSK and KKR at the Chepauk set the record for the most sixes in an IPL match. 31 sixes were smashed by both the teams. KKR hit 17 sixes with Andre Russell smacking 11 while CSK hit 14 sixes with 5 of them coming from England's Sam Billings. KKR lost the game despite those 17 sixes.
Youngest player in the IPL history
Afghanistan latest spin sensation Mujeeb Ur Rahman became the youngest cricketer to take the field in an IPL match when he represented Kings XI Punjab against the Delhi Daredevils. At 17-years and 11 days, Rahman broke the earlier record held by Royal Challenger's Sarfaraz Khan who was 17 years and 177 days when he had made his debut for RCB.
Fastest fifty in the IPL
Kings XI Punjab's big signing and the second most expensive Indian player KL Rahul stunned the world with the fastest fifty in the IPL. The Indian cricketer took just 14 balls to reach his half-century surpassing the previous record held by Yusuf Pathan and Sunil Narine who needed 15 balls to achieve the feat. Rahul's inning included 6 fours and 4 sixes.
First cricketer to play for 7 different IPL teams
Australia's T20 specialist Aaron Finch became the first cricketer to represent 7 IPL franchises when he took the field for Kings XI Punjab against RCB. Finch made his debut for Royals in 2010 and since then he has played for Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions and the Kings XI.
