IPL 2018: Scenarios in which RCB would qualify for play-offs
Like Mumbai, Royal Challengers Bangalore also find themselves in a similar position in the race for play-offs. A win against SRH has put RCB in the map and there will be plenty at stake in their final league-game. RCB have peaked at the end of the season and this makes the battle for play-offs interesting. Here are the scenarios in which RCB would qualify.
AB, Virat have come together in a stunning manner
When the going gets tough, true leaders come on the field and take command. The same can be said for Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Since three matches in a row, the duo have come to the fore. Against DD, they scored 70 and 72. Virat followed it with 48* against KXIP. AB then took charge against SRH, hitting a splendid 69.
Three successive wins see RCB come strong
The positive energy of Kohli and AB has transpired into the whole team. The manner in which RCB bowled against KXIP was a class act. Against table toppers SRH, the entire team came together and defended a massive total, which at one stage was going in favor of visitors. ABD's fielding has been a hallmark. The one-handed catch to dismiss Alex Hales was magical.
What's the qualification scene?
Five teams are still alive to qualify for the play-offs. KKR, MI, KXIP, RR and RCB are in contention. With RCB beating SRH on Thursday, a nail-biter is now awaited against Royals in their final game with both sides having 12 points each. A win for RCB would give them impetus, but no assurance since they are dependent on other results.
Results and Net Run Rate to determine qualification
If RCB beat RR, then the latter will be knocked out. RCB would finish with 14 points and have a healthy positive Net Run Rate. Presently it's +0.264. If RR beat RCB, then Bangalore are out. If KKR win and finish third, then the 4th place fight will be between RCB and MI, provided Mumbai beat DD. Net RR will come to play here.
Can RCB qualify?
MI face bottom-placed DD and will go in as favorites. KKR face a tricky test against SRH and a loss would spell trouble. That's when RCB come into play against Royals, who will be without Jos Buttler. It's pretty hard to call at this moment.
