IPL 11: Which cities can now host CSK's home games?
Chennai Super Kings will not be playing any more matches at the M Chidambaram Stadium. Police officials have stated that security is an issue in wake of protests. It is a big blow for the franchise as they have enjoyed a lot of success at the home stadium. Here's the list of cities which can now host home games of CSK.
Cauvery issue leads to widespread protests
The Cauvery water dispute has led to protests in the city of Chennai. Thousands of pro-Tamil activists have come on streets and were also seen outside the stadium. A fan was spotted hurling a shoe at Ravindra Jadeja. Pro-Tamil groups have called for boycott of IPL in Chennai citing that the matches are turning the attention away from the core issue.
List of cities
As per reports, the BCCI has short-listed four cities that can host home games of CSK. Visakhapatnam is being considered as the favorite option besides Pune, Trivandrum and Rajkot listed as the other three possibilities. The BCCI has given CSK time to evaluate the situation and pick a venue to play their matches. Logistical reasons could see Visakhapatnam getting the nod.
Issues in the past
In 2014, home matches of CSK were shifted out of Chennai by Tamil Nadu Municipal Corporation citing the construction of three stands in the stadium as illegal. In 2013, Sri Lankan players were not allowed to play in Chennai during the IPL owing security concerns.
